Very unusual Eastern European Marriage Chest / Bridal Chest
This would have been hand crafted by a local village carpenter for the bride to be.
I have looked for the translation of the writing to find out what country this is from but it’s proving difficult, the closest alphabet is Romania and Russia.
It is in very good condition. The date of 1953 on the front of the chest may suggest this was when it was made but it could have been much earlier. Some of the Eastern European countries were still very much rural back in the 50’s.
It has suffered historic woodworm but it has been thoroughly treated everywhere.
Dimensions are 38″ wide, 2ft deep, 26″ high
